This was originally written as a response to a friend in 2017. It is even more pertinent today as we wait for the rapture of the church.

 

Some interpret 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 as if it is referring to the rapture. They would not be wrong, because the rapture is integrated as closely as possible to God’s wrath, all while keeping the followers of Christ protected from the time of wrath.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 NASB (1) "Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. (2) For you, yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. (3) While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. (4) But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; (5) for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; (6) so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. (7) For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. (8) But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. (9) For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, (10) who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. (11) Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing."

Points and context to consider.

1. “Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.”

   The word times is the Greek word chronos and can be long or short. Epochs, or as other translations have put it, seasons, is the Greek word kairos. There is a similarity between this word and times, but the word kairos applies to a measure of time or a period when things are brought to a crisis.

   Paul would not have been so presumptuous as to say “you have no need of anything to be written to you” unless he had already spoken to them clearly, distinctly, and with no misunderstanding about what those words meant. Paul's words were adequate and well defined as he spelled out the hope that we have of Jesus coming back in the clouds to collect us, His bride, the church. An event that has little to do with the seven years of God's wrath; an event that is to be unleashed upon the earth only moments after the rapture.

2. “for you, yourselves know perfectly the day ...”

   The question for us today is, what day is Paul talking about? 

   This can either be the day of our gathering back to Jesus as the bride, or it is the day in which God pours out His wrath upon the earth.

   Day seems like such a simple word. “day” is the Greek word hēmera. 

   For the church, it means “the last day of this present age;” the age of grace, or, the end of the church age.

   We need to understand that Paul was specifically speaking of the day in which we depart from this earth. Paul, in his second letter to the church in Thessalonica, said this.

   2 Thessalonians 2:3 NASB (3) "Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,"

   As you can see above the translators followed the pattern established by the state church of England and changed the early and acceptable term, departure, with the knowledge of the King of England in 1769 by using the term apostasy.

   Apostasy means an abandonment. Up to the point that Charlie Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025, it could easily be said most people had come find church pointless, and therefore, abandoned the church.

   The problem: apostasia is not the base word from which “they” acquired the translation. The origins of apostasia is aphístēmi (G868), and means to depart.

   The Word Study Dictionary emphasizes the word Departure. “apostasía; gen. apostasías, fem. noun from aphístēmi (G868), to depart. Departure, apostasy.”

   So we can ascertain that the church must depart before the antichrist character can emerge upon the scene. Do not get me wrong, he is currently standing in the shadows and will soon emerge to confer his acceptance of this seven-year peace agreement, which seems to be something that America is trying to shove down Israel's throat as I write this (9/29/2025)

   In Revelation 6:16-17, hemera is one of the defining words pertaining to God's wrath.

   Revelation 6:16-17 NASB (16) and they *said to the mountains and to the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; (17) for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"

   This highlighted information is critical to our understanding. It is also clarified with an eye-opening explanation. “Eastern usage of this term differs from our western usage. Any part of a day is counted as a whole day, hence the expression “three days and three nights” does not mean literally three whole days, but at least one whole day plus any part of two other days.”
   Thayer's Greek Definitions

   As I read through the account of Jesus' death and resurrection, I expected to see three full days. No matter what the explanations from "learned" teachers, nothing made sense, that is, until I understood how the Jews understood the concept of three days. We can apply this same concept to the narrative pertaining to the Prophet Jonah. I reference Jonah because Jesus used Jonah as an example of what His own death and resurrection would look like. For me, this only demonstrates how variable God is with His timetable.

3. "The day of the Lord.”

   The day of the Lord only shows up 26 times when you do a search for the phrase using the KJV. “Of the Lord” is one Greek word kurios and means “he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding.”

The Day of the Lord.

• Isaiah 2:12 AMP “For there shall be a day of the Lord of hosts against all who are proud and haughty and against all who are lifted up--and they shall be brought low--” [Zeph. 2:3; Mal. 4:1.]

  Malachi 4:1 AMP “FOR BEHOLD, the day comes that shall burn like an oven, and all the proud and arrogant, yes, and all that do wickedly and are lawless, shall be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.”

• Zephaniah 2:3 declares, “it may be you shall be hid in the day of the Lord.”

• 1 Corinthians 5:5 conveys the message that the spirit [of believers] may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

If I were looking for examples of being hid, I would look to Daniel, who was NOT there when his three Hebrew brethren were thrown into the fiery furnace. I could take this to the next step, for the three were NOT harmed in any way. Another example comes from the saga of Noah. When the time for the flood came, God put Noah and his family into the ark and closed the door.

A portion of the passage we were reading tells us in verse nine that God did not appoint us to wrath.

Is this, or does this, define what is coming?

• Isaiah 13:4 explains that it shall come as destruction.

• Isaiah 34:8 expresses that this day is vengeance.

• And Joel 1:15 also says this time is destruction.

• Zephaniah 1:8 calls the day the Lord's sacrifice. [This is God doing the sacrificing.]

• Zephaniah 1:14 states that the mighty shall cry bitterly.

I am convinced that the rapture will be the thing that hides us from the wrath; and, what is coming is destruction.

4. “But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;”

   Thieves sneak up on you, but this is also equated to a pregnant woman. If you have never fully experienced this process, you may never understand. Pregnancy does not sneak up on you. You are fully aware of what is going to happen, and you have nine months to prepare. Once the labor pains begin, you have minutes or days.

5. “You are children of light, and the children of day; we are not of the night nor of darkness;”

   I suppose this is telling us that we have NO excuses.

6. “Therefore, let us not sleep as do others but let us watch and be sober.”

   Sleep means to be slothful. Alert tells us to give attention to or take heed.

7. “... be sober, putting on the breastplate or faith ...”

   Sober means to be calm. Calm when you know that horrible things are about to happen.

8. “For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,” 1 Thessalonians 5:9

   Appointed is the Greek word aphístēmi and means to set, put, and place.
   Wrath means temper or violent emotion.
   Salvation is deliverance, preservation, safety, or deliverance from molestation.

   Molestation has its basis in any unwanted harassment or mistreatment.

One of the questions you put forth is,

Why would Paul/God see a need to tell this body about the rapture and their understanding of how this will work, seeing as they would never experience the rapture?

For Paul to say, I have no need to write to you (about the rapture) is indicative of the fact that Paul had already spoken to this body of believers in a clear and concise manner.

The common understanding is that Paul only preached in Thessalonica for three weeks. As I read about Paul’s impact on this community, I am hard-pressed to understand how Paul could do this in only three weeks. Adding to this confusion of mine is the fact that Paul met at the local Synagogue on the Sabbath, a Saturday. We have little additional definition and, therefore, logically assume that Paul was only at the Synagogue on three Saturdays. Based upon how we do church in the modern world, that gives Paul about three hours of teaching time; that is if they wholeheartedly gave the pulpit to this stranger.

[Ask yourselves, did these people know that Saul, the pharisee, now a follower of Christ, was the skilled theologian among the Jewish council and therefore equipped to teach them from, say, Deuteronomy? Or, as a follower of Christ, was he welcome to bring a message perceived as heresy among the devout Jews? Neither of these would make sense unless they had a policy that allowed people to speak, as long as they were within traditional boundaries.]

What are we doing here?

We are applying Gentile, Sunday School mentality, which leads you to believe that your mind and the ability to speak only works on Sunday when the church is open.

The Biblical Illustrator commentary says this about Paul's interactions in Thessalonica.

“The (book of) Acts contain little or no account of the apostle’s labors among the Gentiles. We only read of three weeks’ preaching in the synagogue, followed by the conversion of many Jews, “devout Greeks,” and “chief women.” Upon this the unbelieving Jews, enlisting the “roughs” of Thessalonica, created a riot which led to the departure of Paul and Silas by night. It is evident, however, from the Epistle, that the apostle’s work here was both more extensive and of longer duration than the history would seem to intimate (insinuate.)”

Why should they “know” perfectly well?

They did not have Bibles from which to assure themselves or train their thinking once Paul was gone; they only had the words and actions of Paul and a handful of people who could remember what Paul said and the fervor with which he delivered the message.

Fortunately, we have other evidence, for Paul, in writing this second letter, states,

(9) For you recall, brethren, our labor and hardship, how working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. (10) You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers; (11) just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children, (12) so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory. 1 Thessalonians 2:9-12 NASB

Based upon what Paul said about their first stay in Thessalonica, he, along with others, worked to support themselves. The idea of working night and day may have included additional time spent exhorting, encouraging, and imploring each one of you... so that you would walk in a manner worthy of God. Everything they did, they did in a manner that was correct according to Jewish standards and traditions; and that their lives demonstrated that they were blameless and without fault before these people.

In time, Paul sent Timothy back to Thessalonica to continue preaching this gospel of Jesus, that he had heard Paul preach, not only in Thessalonica but also in Berea.

What did they now know?

“The day,” in Jewish custom, was to understand three days as, one entire day, and any part of two others. This makes Jesus' own three days very understandable. Therefore, the day can also be seen as “the week of years” that we also see in Daniel, something that also operates on the same principle; it is a variable.

I am convinced that the church's rapture will be the thing that hides us from the wrath.

One last aspect of your question.

Why would God think He needed to share this information with the church (the body of believers) in Thessalonica?

1. They were struggling with fear.

   We don't really understand why until 1 Thessalonians 4.

“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord, Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”
(1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 NASB)

They thought that Christ had already come; that they had been left behind, and now needed to be reinforced in their understanding and faith. I am convinced that we all, at some point, need to be supported because we have constant attacks on our relationship with Jesus.

How does Satan attack?

He attacks the foundations of our faith, understanding, relationships, righteousness, and moral standing.

1. God is NOT merely sharing this information with one small group of people (such as the church in Thessalonica;) this is being shared with the family that is to come, and, we are that family.

   2 Timothy 3:16 NLT instructs us that “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”

Paul’s direction is always to stay alert as we wait for the Lord's return. I can see many benefits to living like this, in a calm, dignified manner, as it shows people what God is like.

What I see others posting is high watch times and days. September 30, that's today; October 3, and October 6,7.

Eyes open, hearts on fire as we wait for Jesus return.

Scriptures that speak to our knowing, within a tight window of opportunity, when Jesus will return for His bride.

Today's date is 9/17/2025

As of this date we are looking at five more days (if you know what I mean.)

Hebrews 10:25 BSB 
“Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

The writer of this letter, to this group of Jewish believers, is telling them to encourage one another. Why do that?

Because most people in church are going through some form of battle and wouldn't dare share that with you. Perhaps the 'fear' that prevents them from sharing has to do with the people, who quickly look at their watch, as they say look at the time, I've got to go. Those same people then drift over to someone they deem more important or less demanding with their needs and talk intimately about their shared interest in the kid's soccer league.

Most people, in the churches that I have had dealings with, want nothing to do with the person sitting near them. This lack of concern usually arises because they have no idea how to respond to what is about to come out of your mouth, when most of the time, just the few extra seconds that is takes for you to pray with them is all that is needed; a few extra seconds to look them in the eyes can let them know that you care.

In general I know what it is to encourage, but for the sake of others who may not understand we will explore the word. If you look up the synonyms for encourage (alternate words that convey a similar meaning), you will get a variety of interpretation options such as: promote, boost, support, inspire, stimulate, enliven, and even animate. (This is important to me because I have sat under preachers who are willing to say, “that word means this,” and then leave you hanging with that one option that they just gave you, when you know good and well that there are other, more effective words.)

Pay attention to phrases like these “but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

Encouraging, why do I have to do that?

As I said, almost everyone of us that follows after God is involved in a battle.

Ephesians 6:11-12 BSB 
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes.  (12)  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Whether you want to call it a struggle or a battle, it matters not, the purpose is to silence you; and, it sure looks like flesh and blood most of the time.

The Ultimate Cross-Reference Treasury has this to say. “So the will plays a vital role in spiritual matters—volition is involved in response to the Divine imperative! But when men are deceived, the will is rendered ineffective, thus one cannot meet the conditions given by God. Satan’s design is not deception for the deception’s sake, but to induce volitional paralysis, to render men passive, to neutralize the will, so that the Divine imperatives cannot be carried out”

An example of one of those imperatives is found in Matthew's gospel.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Because Jesus has all authority, and we are in Him, then we are to go and make disciples.

According to Webster's Dictionary: “Volition is the actual exercise of the power which the mind has of considering or forbearing to consider an idea.”

It is these battles that challenge our hope.

Hope is expectation, anticipation, and the leaning of everything we have upon a promise.

How do we encourage?

It almost sounds like a cheerleader and that may be true, but it is difficult to cheer others on if you have had the inspiration beaten out of you. If this is going on around you do your best to separate yourself from these dissenters.

While I have to admit that the day is also a variable, there is the implication that we can know the day.

So, undoubtedly, we encourage other believers by being a cheerleader and pointing out that we, the church, are not going to be subject to God's wrath.

If you wish to struggle with the idea of us knowing when Jesus will return for His bride, then consider the 50 prophets that followed Elijah.

“Then the sons of the prophets at Jericho came up to Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from you today?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”
(2 Kings 2:5 BSB)

Chew on that for a while, for the sons of the prophets knew it was to be that day.

Another passage comes Revelation 3:3

“Remember, then, what you have received and heard. Keep it and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know the hour when I will come upon you.”
(Revelation 3:3 BSB)

Perhaps we can deem this to be an idiom, but never forget that there is NOTHING in scripture that is there by accident. He means for us to understanding that we can perceive that this moment in time is down to the hour.

Here in 1 Thessalonians we focus on the times and the seasons.

“Now about the times and seasons, brothers, we do not need to write to you. For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers, are not in the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a thief. For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of our hope of salvation. For God has not appointed us to suffer wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let's take a moment to break down this passage.

1. “Now, about the times and seasons ...”

   It is clear to me that we are to understand the times and the seasons. As followers of Christ, we are to expect violence coming at us. Jesus warned us that because they hated Me, they will hate you. So what happened to Brother Charlie Kirk, is NOT uncommon, especially in the African nations. Guess what, this level of common violence is coming to America, sooner than you think. The times and the seasons in which Jesus will come back are upon us.

2. “ While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, ...”

   They, being the nations against Israel, have already gathered to voice their opinions about the New York document, a document that will be ratified on September 23, 2025, and then it may only have one dissenting vote, although I am hoping the President Trump votes against it, making it two who are standing against this Peace and Security agreement that is being co-chaired by French President, Emmanuel Macron and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salmon.

   The question is: the destruction that is coming, will it be upon the signers, or, upon Israel.

3. “... and they will not escape.”

   Does it matter to whom Jesus is speaking?

   Not really, because as I write this Israel is fighting a war on seven fronts. Any action, no matter who fires first, will be met with overwhelming firepower. I might add that Israel is progressively leveling Gaza as we speak. This action, has motivated Germany, one of the last allies Israel had, to turn their backs on Israel and voice their approval of this two state solution.

   Do not think for a second that the Islamic nations care one bit about Israel or this UN agreement, which will be signed on September 23, because those nations want Israel thrown into the sea.

4. “But you, brothers, are not in the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a thief. For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.”

   In general, this statement is trying to bolster your faith and understanding, that you can understand and comprehend what God is about to do. He is about to say, Son, go get your bride.

   The naysayers loudly and incessantly rave, No man knows the day or the hour! And yet, look at the world around you. Everywhere you turn you can hear the sounds of the toilet being flushed. Nations, such as France, are burning; this is a nation where 1 in 4 women are being raped by Islamic Jihadists. There is hardly a nation where the situation is turning deadly. If you don't believe that, ask Charlie Kirk; oh yeah, you can't because he got assassinated. The hour is upon us.

5. “putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of our hope of salvation.”

   We are not to turn to rage but to live in the hope of salvation. If you have confessed that Jesus Christ is the Lord of your life then you are a believer, a follower of Christ. You no longer have time to play with the world. Separate yourself from their ways and turn quickly to Jesus.

   Why would the Apostle Paul say that salvation brings hope if it was not meant to tell us that our hope is in the rescue of the church from the horrendous things that are about to be unleashed with the signing of this peace and security agreement?

   If you are a chronologically oriented person, and know a bit of Daniel 9 and beyond, then you also know that most do not see our rescue until the antichrist adds his approval and support for Peace and Security agreement. Seriously, God is going accomplish what He desires and He desires His bride.

6. “For God has not appointed us to suffer wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

   We have hope because of this statement right here.

Because of scripture, many of us were looking for heavenly signs, well, we got them.

“And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed in the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and crying out in the pain and agony of giving birth.”
(Revelation 12:1-2 BSB)

These signs were star alignments in the night sky, that in this case came into perfect alignment somewhere around 2017. I could NOT see them from where I live as the light pollution obliterates all but a couple of the brightest stars. Many people use an app called Stellarium to know where to look. I just take their word for it; the problem was that so many of the events that we now see, were not happening at the time of John's writing.

Oh, I might add that the Magi from the East, during the days of Jesus' birth, came and paid homage to the young child Jesus, based upon their knowledge of the stars.

Allow me to burst your bubble.

“When Herod saw that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was filled with rage. Sending orders, he put to death all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, according to the time he had learned from the Magi.
(Matthew 2:16 BSB)

So Jesus, was now at least two, and was NOT living in a manger by the time the wise men (and their rather large entourage,) arrived. Joseph and Mary were in a rented home, at least. The Magi brought them great wealth and I would not be surprised to find out that the gifts funded the entirety of their stay in Egypt.

In regards to the escalating level of violence, which we just witnessed.

“They will put you out of the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God.”

Consider what John 16:4 has to say.

“But I have told you these things so that when their hour comes, you will remember that I told you about them. I did not tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.”

In my humble opinion, the context of Jesus's statement applies to the Jewish community who are living at the time of God's wrath being poured out. The “hour” is the Greek word hōra and carries meanings, whether (literally or figuratively) of : - day, hour, instant, season. I believe that John 16:4 then points to that moment when “they” will kill you because you are a follower of Christ, or for simply being a Jew.

We will always be with the Lord.

“For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.”

Since imperfection (sin) cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven, we must shed this earthly body.

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

Thanks to Adam we have all been infested with sin. How to define that is part of the mystery, but it is not that difficult. That piece of fruit that the two of them ingested changed their DNA and everyone born of man is infested since then. There was time when such a concept was fodder for science fiction movies. Well, Bill Gates and others like him, paid the right people and they found a way to alter your DNA through a Mrna injection. We will not go into details, but I will tell you that one of my brothers died thanks to this manipulation of science. So we have to shed the carrier of that sin; you got it, the body. In the twinkling of an eye we will shed this damaged body in exchange for a new one. It will look just like you. Consider Jesus, He came back from the grave, sat on the beach one day and cooked and ate fish with the disciples. Sounds rather physical, but I can't explain it now and keep this short. We will be changed and sin free, something that was attached to this old body and linked back to the garden. I long for that day.

I am, by request, doing a study in Romans with the guys and I wanted you to see this one in particular because it talks about study methods.

 On August 11, 2019, Pastor Jon's sermon was:

"A couple of things I wished I had known about reading the Bible."

I am quite sure my Pastor's learning and understanding came at great expense in theology school. The irony is, I already knew these things. I learned them in the school of hard knocks. At this point, I have been seriously studying and looking at scripture for twelve years. In the process of doing that, I wrote about what I saw, tried to get an accurate picture of who God and Jesus are, and asked God a lot of hard questions, and they were all answered.

A friend of mine asked me how do you study?

What Pastor Jon delivered that Sunday morning was a clearly worded, concise technique for study. So I included that information along with my overview of the first chapter of Romans.

By the way, I realize that I could be writing to trained theology students and those who may never pick up a Bible, so I try to keep it intelligent and yet simple.

Back to my former Pastor Jon's notes.

1. The Bible was written for us, not to us.

   This is a significant statement, as it moves scripture out of the hallowed halls of religion and into our hands. It removes the sterility that we have imposed on scripture, and it is a unique perspective from which to start any Bible study, making scripture very personal.

2. The meaning of the text is embedded in its original, historical context.

   So the question you should ask next is, what does that look like for us today?

   Perhaps at this point, I should tell you that the Pastor's overall theme was, understanding the writings of the Apostle Paul, based on his letter to Philemon. In the study on Romans - that I have included, I cover, to some degree, the historical context of the Book of Romans. A massive piece of evidence comes from Romans 1:1, where Paul begins his typical introduction. Here he says, I Paul, a slave of Jesus Christ. Again, I cover this in the study below.

   This thought process also works exceptionally well when studying the book of Romans.

3. The Bible is a context-rich form of communication.

   What does that mean? It means that everything you read in scripture, especially in the New Testament, has an initiating question or point of conversation. For example, the Revelation is filled with context - (It is a book written to Jews, using terminology that would have been common to them, and yet it applies primarily to us today. The imagery is nothing new, although, we, for some reason, struggle with multi-headed beasts.)

   Context is what links us back to the original thought and intent.

   Chuck Missler used to say, “it is an integrated, coded, message system.” That means that the messages in the scripture, though thousands of years apart, are integrally linked by God into one all-encompassing picture, in which God wins.

• Get a Bible reading plan – like the You Version app.

  In reality, this means being deliberate in your reading. If necessary, force yourself to invest time daily.

• Dig into the Bible passages that make your radar go off, and then dig a little deeper.

  I have a friend who seems to bounce back and forth in scripture; I understand why he does it, but when he asks questions, they are combinations of various thoughts and contexts, and sadly, he is often confused. The moral to this story is to get focused.

  No one is telling you to ignore boring passages; however, when you find a scripture that speaks to you, dismantle the verse; look at the Hebrew or Greek definitions of the simplest of words in a concordance, and find their meanings. Then, look for other comparative examples of the same thing.

  A tip - Since much of what we read is prophetic, you need to understand that prophecy is not a one-time event to the Jewish mindset. The Jews looked for and found acceptance in the patterns and repetition; therefore, when reading something prophetic, look for the parallels and previous examples. The Books of Daniel and Revelation are good examples of such similarities.

• Read for transformation.

  Try to understand the author's original intent; this will be necessary for us to apply the text to our lives today.
  As the Pastor spoke about these things, I could not help but think about two things.

  1. It required an expensive school to teach him these methods.

  2. I developed these same methods through reading and writing.

  
  

Here it is, April 4, 2020, and I feel a strong compulsion to address fear.

We are surrounded by negativity and fear.

The daily news is feeding into the fear by amplifying aspects of the most recent virus while inflating the death tolls.

What am I talking about?
What we now call Covid 19, and what it has done to global populations.

Here in America, we are supposed to be on home quarantine. Obviously, some could care less.

We have yet, at the time of this writing, to be put on mandatory facial mask usage, and we can still go out to the store for groceries, if necessary. I, personally, have not experienced the lines and mazes, as stores now monitor the number of people that enter, all to maintain “social distancing.”

Watching my pastor on YouTube this morning, he spoke of something that I had made a note of several days ago, as we encounter those in the market, who have masks on, there is an immediate reaction that says, this person is very fearful, or, they are a threat. This last aspect became vital to me about a week ago, as I stood in a self check out line at Walmart. In the next line, approximately eight feet away from me, a lady began to cough repeatedly. I looked to see her inadvertently form a cone with her hand, to do what, direct whatever she was hacking up toward me. I thought, how obnoxious. The ladies behind me and I wished that she was wearing a mask.

This self quarantining, along with mandatory closures of our Churches, has done a great job of adding to the fear.
My wife recently asked me, aren't you afraid of touching surfaces. I responded with, no more than I have ever been, and yet, for all I know, I have never contracted a hideous disease from grabbing a shopping cart. Now I have been entirely disgusted, particularly when some non-caring employee wipes the seat of a chair and then the tabletop.

Recently, before we got excluded from all sit-down restaurants, we went to a small one, that had, at least, closed off every other table to maintain some distance between customers. This particular place is small and always packed. I touched my hand to the tabletop and found it to be sticky no matter where I put my hand. My wife told me, as though she had seen them do it, that they had installed too much resin in the epoxy. Garbage, they did a lousy job of cleaning.

It would seem that we are naive, believing whatever they tell us or we are being lied to.
I just learned that Bill Gates attended a conference in New York, last October, to talk about this very thing, and yet nothing was done to stop it. This was about the same time that the Wuhan/Covid virus was beginning to be talked about.
We all assumed that this stupid disease, much like bird flu, would stay there, but it did not. I have since learned that the author, Dean Koontz, was writing about this very thing, as far back as 1985 in one of his action novels.
Many have spoken of how this so-called virus was intentionally weaponized, and that the Chinese, whom the United States had applied many tariffs, to get them to comply with reason, may have done this deliberately, as the Chinese are now scooping up businesses and properties in Italy – who is next.
It turns out that the powering up of 5G antennas in and around Wuhan may have initiated this disease, as 5G cell towers have been proven to have detrimental effects on living things, and they cause cell disruptions to the point that the cells produce fatal toxins in the body.
It is also possible that the 5G towers can cause these deadly toxins to exude from our bodies in an aerosol form; hence, they now believe that the act of breathing can make us deadly to others around us.

I opened by saying this all feeds into the fear.
Until recently, I had no idea about the ramifications of the 5G cell towers, and they are everywhere at this point.

So, did my naivety leave me fearless?
Are you kidding me? I have been battling with fear my entire life, and sadly, I suspect that many of you have as well.

Is there a Biblical response to this Fear?
Absolutely. Let's start with this.

Isaiah 43:1 NASB But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!

Many translations say, Fear Not, that is not so easy to do, especially when you are getting hit from multiple directions at the same.

God is not asking us NOT to Fear. He is telling us, directly, why?
The answer is in the passage, and the passage tells us, because He redeemed us, and called us, personally, by our names, and we are His.

If you were passing by, would this work for you? Probably not, for it seems as if something more is needed, and that is precisely why the Apostle Paul spoke this prayer over the church in Rome, and recorded it in Romans 15:13. It goes like this.

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. (NLT)

If God went to the trouble of learning our names, regardless of what we would do, calling us personally, and then redeeming us; then He surely wanted us to have an expectation that someday all the promises he made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and then us, were going to come to pass, and that they applied to us as well. All this means that NO MATTER what happens and what becomes of us, we will be secured in His hands, with Him, forever.

Does this make facing tough times easier? Perhaps not.

Have you ever seen the movie Braveheart? 
I bring this up because, in the movie, common men had to steel themselves and encourage themselves to fight. There was no doubt that some would die in these battles, but to do nothing meant certain death. I don't know that we are in that position as yet; and, I am not sure that I can tell you what to do if we were, but I do know that we are called to pray, and as I have stated on previous occasions, pray as if your life depended upon it.

God is NOT telling us to take up swords and fight; this becomes clear when you read this.

“Put away your sword,” Jesus told him. “Those who use the sword will die by the sword.” Matthew 26:52 NLT 

Then what do we fight with?

We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 2 Corinthians 10:4 NLT 

We pray!

Jesus told us, in Matthew 24:8, that the things we have been seeing are the beginning of birth pains.

Do birth pains go on for years?
Perhaps on God's timeline, but take note that He is using human language so that these birth pains can be understood in relatively human terms. The ceremoniously religious will tell you that we can't know when Jesus is coming for His church; they will even quote where Jesus said, no man, not even the Son, knows the day or the hour, but they leave off the part about how He was answering a Jewish question, in a manner that His audience would understand. Those hearing these words that Jesus spoke, knew how the new moon would be here and detectable, on either, one expected day or the other, depending upon the cloud cover; and, if it could not be seen, then the high priest would declare the beginning of the new month because it should be here.
Can you see the variability in this?

 Not knowing the day or the hour is a relative thing, and anyone, with half a brain, understood approximately when the new moon would arrive. Jesus, however, said nothing, at this point, about not knowing the season, and folks, we are in it, neck-deep.

This entire scenario that we are in was created to migrate us into a much larger, full-scale operation.

Do people like Boris Johnson, the Prime minister of Britain, have to end up in the ICU at the hospital in order for the scenario to play itself out? 
Apparently.

The closure of Churches is not a coincidence, and yes, you can scream at me all day about the health reasons, but I have had to make ventures to Walmart, and trust me on this, it is scarier there than in church.

What's the biggest difference between Walmart and the church?
In the church, we pray for each other because the Bible tells us that the prayer of faith will heal them.

What if what is going on around us, was meant to draw you away from God?
Are you going to let that happen? Are you going to live in fear?
Why would you do that when scripture tells us that anything not done in faith is fear, and fear, is missing the mark (sin.)

Here is how you are to live in these last days.

“... And live peacefully with each other.

Brothers and sisters, we urge you to

warn those who are lazy.

Encourage those who are timid.

Take tender care of those who are weak.

Be patient with everyone.

See that no one pays back evil for evil,

but

always try to do good to each other and to all people.

Always be joyful.

Never stop praying.

Be thankful in all circumstances,

for

this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus."
