A two year veteran of recovery, and battling depression

Angry Talk (Comic Style)

If you have followed me for any time then you know that two years ago I humbled myself and placed myself in Celebrate Recovery. I did this because I had allowed myself to become consistently enraged. Sadly, this was not something I could keep hidden, and I lost a job due to expressing my displeasure at a manager. Fortunately a friend pointed out that I needed help. Thus began a lifelong journey. I call it a lifelong journey because I really do not know anyone who has it altogether, nor do I know anyone in recovery who believes they are permanently healed. Sure, they may act like it for moments at a time, but they are merely good actors.

Part of this journey I am on included several trips to a John Eldredge inspired Band of Brothers boot camp. The idea and hope were that the camp would be life changing; while it dug up a multitude of wounds that needed attending too, the most significant thing that happened was that God directed me to a man who eventually brought me to recovery. Almost immediately I got signed up for a twelve step group. In the group, because I was challenged by a barrage of difficult and soul-searching questions, I decided that being painfully honest in my answers would be the best course of action, and bring about the best chance of healing. To be honest, the process of getting through what I thought was the only issue, took about a year. Slowly the rage began to subside, and then something overwhelming happened, I began to see all the codependent issues in me that fed the anger (I am aware that they have been there most of my life). It took my breath away.
I am now a two-year veteran of recovery, and battling depression associated with the codependency. I believe this depression, like the anger, is the result of unresolved issues, things I am powerless over. When I describe how I feel, I often feel more lost, as most have no idea what I am going through. Those that have not experienced depression will rarely be able to understand. A friend of mine recently told me that many of the things that cause us grief, are real. While that may be, I also have what I call voices in my head. These voices sound like my dad, my mom, ex wives, religious themes and in general they berate me, telling me that I am a loser, that I screwed up again, and that I have no value. The voices typically are contrary to what I see in God's word, and they are designed to make me feel anything other than what God's word tells me.
Just telling you about it seems to cause one of those voices to rise up, telling me that, you, the reader, will also turn against me. As I sat last evening, trying to flesh this theme out in my head, I vocalized it to my girlfriend. In doing so I said something that is probably a desperate truth – I am not alone, and God has allowed me to go through this discomfort and sometimes despair, because He believes I can handle it, and knows that I will write about it. So I quickly realized that negativity is one of those weapons we are to guard against with this shield of faith we believers wear.
Let's talk about this armor for a moment. Instead of mentally taking it off every night as some imply they do, why not assume that it is an aspect of your life in Christ, and like a knight of something like the round table, presume that your calling and job is for life. Your armor is custom fitted and there is no need to take it off. Besides, should you need it, there is no time to redress yourself, so merely live in it. Now should you need to remind yourself that it is still on, there is no penalty, except for loud clang as the enemies arrows bang into your breastplate. Perhaps you can take that as a wake up call.
To put some reality to the voices I will give you an example. This one was inadvertently and recently added to the repertoire. I, at one of my meetings, (I am in leadership at two recovery groups) stood up along with a lady, to give out chips marking milestones in our recovery. The chip given most often is the welcome/new comer/fresh start chip. I have several of these. My addiction is no easier to overcome than the next guys, and at one point I was going on six months without getting enraged at someone. I was so proud of myself. As I sit in meetings and watch people who have been addicted to horrible things, go up and get a chip for years of sobriety, I think to myself, I want that too. Sadly, I discovered how easy it is to simply make a choice to relapse. In other words, I allowed myself the freedom to rage once again, and had to start over. I wish I could tell you what that did to my head. I was so disappointed in myself, because taking another chip indicating that you are starting over can be a humbling and difficult moment, even when people are telling you that you are exhibiting incredible bravery and demonstrating the willingness to be a victor when you do this. I believe that if your heart is right, and you want help, then yes, you just overcame once again. Back to my female partner in passing out chips. As I stopped myself from my typical impromptu speech about our choice to pick ourselves up again and move forward, I said, “and I am taking a chip to start afresh on my journey to recovery over anger.” She immediately, in front of everyone, said, “you have quite a collection of those.” Inwardly I was crushed, but outwardly I laughed it off because I am standing there now exposed in front of the group. We have talked about this, but the voice still remains, as well as my collection of chips. And though I should be picking up another blue chip, I cannot bring myself to add another to my collection just yet. In the midst of this mess - yes, I have my moments of despair - God began to speak to me. Fortunately, I am accustomed to hearing God's voice and I recognize it; it even speaks louder than the negative voices most of the time.
Since this is actually my attempt at screwing my head back on straight I have to integrate this with scripture, and, in a sense, a bible study. So here goes.
About 38 years ago, I was angry, depressed, and drinking a lot. One day my dad asked me if I wanted to go to a men's retreat with him. Since I knew they had a swimming pool and they feed you well, I opted to go. I think this was the first time I heard Jerry Savelle speaking. Over the years I have backed away from Jerry and others like him, but there at camp God used Jerry to get my attention. The next time he spoke I moved up to the front row. That day he compelled us to stand, act like men, and repeat what he said. It is what he had us say, and how my heart responded to it, that changed my life.
Here is a representation of what he had us verbalize:
  • I am what the Word of God says I am.
What does that mean if you do not know what the word of God says about you. It also impacts you, because as you find out what God says about you, you begin to understand his character. Above all else, He loves you
  • I have been chosen by him
You come to find out that God had his heart set upon you before the world began. You can find multiple references for this idea. 1Thessalonians 1:4,5
  • Made in His image
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
  • Because I am in him, I am holy and blameless before him.
Colossians 1:22 ESV he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,
  • Adopted into the family.
Ephesians 1:5 ESV he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,
  • He designed me to show his glory.
Ephesians 1:12 ESV so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.
  • I have been redeemed by his blood.
    Revelation 5:9 EMTV …. because You (Jesus) were slain, and You redeemed us to God by Your blood, out of every tribe and language and people and nation;
  • I am not of this world.
    Ephesians 2: 1-6
  • All things are working together for my good
Even if I cannot see it. Romans 8:28 EMTV And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
This went on for several minutes. By the time we got done I felt like I was a changed person on the inside. Although, in honesty, several years later, due to my codependency, and marital issues, I pulled away from God for about ten years, and no, they were not all good as some would say, but I can tell you that I was very much aware that God was right there waiting for me to turn around and run to him.
I hope you understand what I mean when I say, I have run into far too many pharisees in my life, therefore I always feel like I have to define everything (even to write this is partly a response to the voices in my head.) Do you see how the enemy works, because the voices sound very much like the negativity people have shoved in my face.
All of the words we said that morning were God's words and you find an aspect of them in almost every letter Paul wrote. But Paul was not the first and only one to write like this; these words of encouragement are found in every book of the bible.
Psalms 139:1-4 MKJV To the Chief Musician, A Psalm of David. O Jehovah, You have searched me and have known me. (2) You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. (3) You search my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. (4) For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Jehovah, You know it altogether.
Jeremiah 29:11 KJV For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
When you think about people you can look to as an example of life done right, who comes to mind? What is your basis for success? For me, they have to be people who are real, made mistakes, and yet God still loved them. Fortunately, the bible is filled with real people, who came out of very dysfunctional households, and yet God still loved them, moved through their lives, and called them a success. King David was one of those.
If you will take the time to study David's life you will find it filled with human emotion and error. However, you find that David kept coming back to one thing, his relationship with Jehovah. He often poured out his heart with tears to the Lord, and sometimes those tears were in response to getting caught. Through it all God called him a man after His own heart, and those words are the ones that ring true to me. I am constantly asking and wondering, especially after seeing his failures, what was different about David. I believe he never stopped loving God, and therefore neither will I.
A heads up: The story of David really begins with an old but powerful prophet named Samuel. So I suggest you begin your reading in 1 Samuel 16.

We already made the transition. A look at Colossians 1: 13.

Colossians 1:12-15 MKJV
(12) giving thanks to the Father, who has made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. (13) For He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son; (14) in whom we have redemption through His blood, the remission of sins. (15) who is the image of the invisible God, the First-born of all creation.

On the cross Jesus Christ removed the punishment for sins. As Paul writes: He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son, why then do we keep acting like every infraction requires our putting Jesus back on the cross in an attempt at reestablishing our place afresh in Him. As I watch people continually struggle, it is easy to believe that this life of deliverance must be a process. I think that because we keep slipping into the grip of darkness. Why do we do that? There is an answer!
My first response is that we are probed for weaknesses and then fed some deception based upon that weakness. Adam was not deceived, Eve was; Adam stood right there, watching what happened.
Genesis 3:13 ESV Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this that you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."
I think I can understand how Adam felt in those moments. He knew what the Lord had told him, and Adam made sure Eve knew as well; we know this because we have no record of God speaking to Eve. That does not mean it did not happen, but scripture is very intentional in telling you about the path of the man, and though Eve no doubt plays a role, God's contract is with the man.
Having come from a religious background, one in which so many things had the potential of causing you to lose your salvation, I came home to my beautiful wife, whom, after a little over five years of marriage I almost despised, and she says to me, I have smoked Marijuana with my brother, here have some. What is so odd about this moment in time is that I met her at church, and she never expressed any interest in drugs, and she had a girlfriend that she loved, who almost died in a car crash due to drugs. So what do I say? Well then, let's go to hell together. No it did not send me to hell, I was living in it. It is possible that Adam thought, I only have this one option for a wife and now she may be dead in a few seconds, there are no other women to choose from, so I will just die with her. (Yes I know, everything about this scenario screams co-dependency, but that is such a major aspect of what we inherited from Adam when he committed treason.)
The second thing I see is the fact that Adam said and did nothing. In those minutes before the fall Adam had choices; he was the healthiest, both mentally and physically, man could ever be, so he did not cower before the pains of codependency; he just stood there watching. Could he have forcibly stopped her? I suppose so, but God gives us the freedom to choose who we will serve, so no, I do not think it crossed Adam's mind. Perhaps scolding or chiding her about her foolishness, or inability to see the trouble she is heading into. Maybe that would have put Eve back on track. But then I think, God has never spoken to me like this. No, it was all about the free will of the person, and Adam got pulled into the trap, all it needed was the right bait, and Eve was it.
Although history since this time has proven itself to be rather cataclysmic, it is really the result of two things: man's ability to make his own choices – whether right or wrong, and the fact God needed Adam's treason to play itself out because in time God would eliminate Satan and any influence this fallen angel had on creation.
Doesn't this point you to a logical explanation. Colossians 1:13 tells us that people walking this earth, walk as free men; free from the penalties that were passed through Adam's treason. I feel comfortable saying treason because Adam knowingly subjected himself to a new master – Satan – in taking the fruit from Eve's hand and eating it.
How is that we walk free on this earth, knowing full well that people, are still to this day in slavery; many, slaves to their own vices?
Because the freedom, in God's eyes, is from the penalty of what Adam did, which we all inherited. It is so much easier to wrap your mind around if you can picture the result of Adam's actions as something that changed his DNA. Since then, because he is the genetic father of all, we inherited that same damaged chromosome, God simply calls it sin. This should help to explain why Jesus, had to be born from above, from God; for to be born from man would have caused him to have that damaged chromosome as well, and that would never work.
Because of our foolish actions, motivated by self will, we are taken captive by the enemy to do his will.
2 Timothy 2:24-26 ESV And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, (25) correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, (26) and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
Notice though, we have, through the help of others prayers and correction, the ability to escape from the snare of the devil. I see this happen all the time in recovery.
Yes, there are snares – small game hunters still use them. Snares are set with bait for the express purpose of attracting victims into the trap. If you are taking the bait because you are hungry then consider getting fed somewhere else. (Okay, I admit that was meddling, but seriously, if you are not getting fed in your congregation, then GET OUT, and find some church body that will feed you.) I am going to let you in on one of the great mysteries of life - there are no perfect churches, but I can think of a few that are trying. The other side of this snare issue, is that you took the bait because you wanted it. Your actions had nothing to do with the necessity to live, you indulged your selfish desires and got trapped because you wanted what you saw.
----------------------
I have heard this question – in various forms – many times. If the penalty for sin has been removed, why then are still being punished, thrown into the lake of fire with Satan and his fallen angels? I rarely hear anyone adequately explain it. Sadly, most people merely assign all those brought before the throne of God to hell. Where do we look to find the answers to this.
While it is God's hope that all be saved, clearly not all are. If, as I showed you from 2 Timothy 2:24-26, many are taken captive by the enemy to do his will, does that not imply some form of willingness to follow.
Revelation 20:10 ESV (10) and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Revelation 20:15 ESV And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
You are an intelligent person, so you caught this immediately: “the devil who had deceived them”. Yes, many of you got deceived, we saw this in the garden story, but remember Eve was the one that got deceived; Adam, made the choice, knowing full well what he was doing. In that moment Adam switched teams; he committed treason against God. Do not worry too much about Adam though, because Jesus Christ went into hell, ripped the keys to death out Satan's hand, and preached good news to those in captivity. That tells me that God showed Adam mercy as well.
Keep in mind that the point here is that the tortuous and eternal separation from God was really meant for Satan and those that followed him. Initially, it was only the angels that followed him. Obviously Satan has gained a rather large following by trapping people.
And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
A close examination of Matthew 25 where Jesus speaks of the dead being brought before the throne of judgment may shed some light on the character of God. Here the dead are separated into what he refers to as sheep and goats. Since Jesus is presented to us as the shepherd in Matthew's gospel, it only makes sense that he tells the story in this way. While I strongly suggest that you read Matthew 25:31-46, I am only going to give you a portion of it for space sake.
Matthew 25:31. 32 ESV "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. (32) Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
There is much confusion about this last throne because:
  1. People ("followers of Christ") cannot see that this throne and the one we find in Revelation 20 are the same.
“Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.” (Revelation 20:11-12 ESV)
Let's talk about this for a minute. “I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne,” At what point do we find everyone among the nations dead? At the end of the millineal reign, after the last great war against God. This war is initiated by the nations; “Christians” have no role in this, unless God has us in the battle as soldiers (Since the time of Christ's physical return to earth, no Christian has died).
When the “nations” are brought before Jesus, he does not say whether they are dead or not, he merely calls them the nations; this should be easy to grasp for the believer as we understand that it is our bodies that are mortal, while our spirit is eternal. In understanding bible prophecy a clear distinction that there are three people groups is vital. There are the Jews (God's chosen), the nations (everyone outside of Christ), and the Church – the body of Christ. So the nations are just that. Since no man really dies is it important to distinguish whether there live ones among this group? No, so you do know if this, like what we see in Revelation 20, is a collection of dead being brought before the throne.
One more thing. Some would say that what Jesus does in sitting upon his glorious throne is happening at the beginning of the millenial reign. While that might be, there are some problems with that theory, such as: It is said that he brings all, Christian and non, ignoring that the passage clearly states that he brings the nations before him.
  1. They tend to only see Jesus, represented as the angry, vengeful God, not finding their names written in the book of life, and therefore sends them into the lake of fire where Satan is.
Revelation 20 makes no mention of sheep. The explanation, which you should have already picked up on, is that Matthew 25 shows us Jesus as the shepherd - an aspect of His nature and character - while Revelation 20 presents us with Jesus as an angry God.
  1. Keep in mind that the book of Revelation is a revelation of Jesus Christ. Therefore, the person we are experiencing in Revelation 20 is Jesus. Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit, are one.
--------------------------------
Colossians 1:13 ESV (13) He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
Colossians 1:13 not only tells us that we were delivered, but that God has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. The NASB used the term transferred instead of translated. To be transferred is to be conveyed from one to another. However, here you sit. Doesn't that show that something beyond your sight, emotions, and feelings is involved.
Paul's letter to the church at Colossi, is written to followers of Christ. These people understood that our relationship with Christ is being described here in verse 13. That understanding does not happen without a purposeful reading of Paul's letters, or the Holy Spirit directly teaching you, or someone who has an understanding of Paul's letters conveying them to you. Therefore I can also learn that this not written to the those outside of the relationship with Christ as they cannot and will not understand.
But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. (2 Corinthians 3:14-16 ESV)
I would completely understand if you said to me, 2 Corinthians 3:14-16 applies to the Jews, and I thought about that too, however, I know people like this. I speak to them about God's word and their responses cause me to walk away scratching my head and saying, how do they not see that? The other things that convince me that it is for us and for today, is that
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,” (2 Timothy 3:16 ESV)
and we are dealing with the New Testament, which was effectively written to the Church – us, therefore I see 2 Corinthians 3:14-16 as useful information.
I recently spoke with someone about the idea that this world is not reality, much like the movie "The Matrix". Where would I get that idea? Because Jesus - after he was no longer in the tomb - walked through walls, and appeared in various places - without walking. After his death and resurrection Jesus shows up on a beach and eats fish with the guys. How does one explain that, since dead guys tend to not do that? He also ascended up into the heavens, defying gravity, when He was done with His mission here on earth. The only type of being that can do that is someone who lives outside of our reality, time, and dimensions.
His name is Jesus Christ. Receiving him is all about faith. Jesus was hung between two thieves, and too will die, as he did. However they wasted no time giving him lip, and yet, one of those thieves saw something different, and he perceived information about this Jesus he had not understood before. It changed him in such a way that he yelled at the other to shut up, “for this man has done nothing wrong.” Turning to Jesus, that thief asked Jesus to remember him as He went to paradise, and Jesus did. If you feel you have enough information then you should make the decision to believe and follow Him as well. Time for the church – the body of Christ is very short and those of us still alive when Jesus returns for His church will be caught up to be with Him forever. After our departure God will pour out His wrath upon the earth and it's inhabitants. The deadly aspect of the time of wrath will be magnified after this, as people will continue to kill each other. As a heads up, Islam will become your greatest foe.

I have struggled lately with Self-esteem.

I have struggled lately. Not with “sin” but with learned behaviors and the longing to be free of them. As some of you know I put myself into a recovery group at church because I need to get a handle on this (poor choice of words seeing as you find out quickly that everything that you have done has not worked and it is only the act of turning your life over to Jesus Christ, continually, that affects any change in your life.) On the plus side I am now the co-leader of a men's bible study.

One of the guys from the 12 step group, passes me a note at the end of last nights meeting. It says read Psalm 139 everyday for one week.

I opened the computer this morning to that Psalm. If you have never been involved in groups like these, there are guidelines, read at the beginning of every meeting, and one of those rules are, there is no cross talk allowed. That means no one gets to interject, interrupt, or try to advise while you are talking. If you are struggling with self-esteem issues and consistently find people cutting you off, telling you what you are thinking, finishing your sentences for you, and their comments are not what you wanted to say, then groups like these are a God send because sometimes you just need to express yourself. (I am seriously thinking of instituting these rules into our bible study group, primarily because of one person.)

One more thing. I am on Facebook more than I need to be, but I have noticed something there. Anonymity. People seem to think they can make some vague entry, berating or abusing people by not stating who you are directing your comments at, and think that no one can figure it out. We all figure it out, and your vagueness only compounds the problem because those not involved can think that you have just taken your selfish shot at them. I say this because of such a comment a short time ago. It easily could have been directed at me because I consistently place comments about end times and the enemy, Satan, that we all have to deal with 24/7. I am not the odd ball when it comes to spiritual attacks, and even learned behaviors are, in my opinion, a spiritual attack. Why? Because the enemy, Satan, came for one reason, “to kill, steal, and destroy, and we are his targets. Why? Because we were made in the image of Christ; not just the believer, although this statement is more true of us, but all of us were made in His image and built off the same pattern ever since. God is who Satan tried to overthrow; Jesus is who Satan tried to kill, and anything we do that makes us a threat to his destructive practices makes us a bigger target. (Don't think that doing nothing will make you less of a target, for your actions prove that he already beat you down.)

Opening my bible program to Psalm 139 immediately reminds of an album I had years ago, by a Messianic band called Lamb. They put much of Psalm 139 to music, and I loved it.

Psalms 139:1 GNB LORD, you have examined me and you know me. When and where did this happen?

Before the foundations of the earth were laid God knew me.

Knowing how I struggle internally and externally the thought occurs to me that we speak about God in terms of those He chooses. We know he does this because we (believers) find this in:
Ephesians 1:4,5 GNB Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be his through our union with Christ, so that we would be holy and without fault before him. Because of his love God had already decided that through Jesus Christ he would make us his children---this was his pleasure and purpose.

I have a terrible time finding myself to be acceptable lately. I think it primarily has to do with questions that I am having to answer that ask, do you act the same at work as you do among fellow believers at a worship service?

Work for me was a continual barrage of stress and stress impacts me negatively. At work I would be aware of a couple of small voices inside me. One would say, do this as unto the Lord, in other words my spirit was telling me to focus on work as though I was working for Jesus. There is a secondary guilt trip that falls into that statement, and that is, that if you are working for Jesus then your every move should be winning the lost for him.

May I be honest with you, sometimes I feel like the lost.

What I am getting out of this is that God knew how frail or pathetic I would be and loved me anyway. I suspect that the question of why me and not someone else is irrelevant or an improper question because we are making the assumption that God's love does not or did not extend to someone, and that is not the case. The situation with Judas, one of the disciples, is the biggest monkey wrench that people throw, but I do not want to take the time to pursue that now.

Psalms 139:2 NASB You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. There is no escaping God. Consider this in light of Adam's transgression.

Genesis 3:8-9 GNB That evening they heard the LORD God walking in the garden, and they hid from him among the trees. (9) But the LORD God called out to the man, "Where are you?"

Seriously? The God that knows everything I do has to ask that question.

I think that over time we have established that God, out of respect for the relationship, gives man the space to cover his shame. Some might call this God honoring man's boundaries. I have looked at this statement a couple more times and thought that maybe we are trying to cover our indiscretions, but that is impossible. You can see this with Cain, the first murderer. Able is dead and buried, an attempt to hide Cain's crime, and yet when God shows up he tells Cain that his brothers blood cries out to Him from the ground. Remember that the life is in the blood. My goodness, this puts a whole new spin on the creativity and magnificence of man, God's creation.

Psalms 139:3 GNB You see me, whether I am working or resting; you know all my actions.

Nothing is hidden from God. Many will read this and see it as oppressive, a situation where you get scrutinized and judged constantly, and that is not the case. We have already seen that God showed respect for Adam's boundaries (if you wish to put it that way - if there were boundaries then God would have created them.) and if God was the all oppressive tyrant then Cain would have been dispatched immediately, and yet Cain is given a protective seal on his head by God.

If he knows all my actions then He knows how my heart longs for him and wants to do the right thing.

The religious theme we shove down each others throat is, walk like Jesus, or what would Jesus do.
Consider; Jesus took the time to find cords, fashion them into a whip, and then drove the thieves out of the temple courtyard. Everything about this act is premeditated and powered by an anger that I do not understand. Obviously he was capable of doing serious damage, but a study of the situation will show a man who had anger under control. I also see a man who, like me, has little tolerance for people being taken advantage of.

So here is a little piece of truth for you. October 21, 2013 I got terminated from my job. This happened, in my opinion, because I expressed my opinion about irrational demands, in front of the opening staff, and made the statement, "but I will make it happen, and turned to go do it." I was angry and stressed beyond reason because I had attempted to make it happen the week before, and failed miserably. Beside that I was under a mandate from my department head to do this same thing, as time allowed, already. All while doing other tasks, helping customers, assisting other employees when needed, and working by myself. No stress here, yeah right.

Psalms 139:4 GNB Even before I speak, you already know what I will say.

David carries this theme throughout the writing. God is already ahead of you.

Does this show an acceptance of bad behavior? I do not think so. First you must consider that sin has been done away with, that happened at the cross, so he is not looking at things the way we do. He still sees the result which in part has to do with the person he is forming in you. And the other has to do with the life that we will have with Him in eternity. Does the fact that sin has been done away with in God's book end our need to deal with people who act out? No. We have some clear instructions on how to deal with unchecked behavior, and we each have to deal with the outcomes of our choices to act against sound wisdom.

Don't think for a second that God just hangs us out there on our own while knowing all that we will do. It just seems logical that he could have diverted us from some of the tragic actions we take. This thought reminds me of the years that I spent drinking and how fortunate I am that I did not kill anyone or myself in a tragic car crash. So maybe God has diverted me, and you, from more things than we know. (Consider those times when you were angry because you missed your turn, or there was some road work that prevented you from taking a path you wanted, only to find out that there had been a tragic accident happen there only moments before and you may have been in it.

Cut God some slack. He has plan for you and much of what you are experiencing is part of the plan to develop you into someone who can make a difference in perhaps one specific life. I am not done with this but do need to move on for now.

My acquaintance handed me a note directing me to read this chapter, each day, for a week. The way I look at scripture it will probably take longer. Already I can see things that I need to focus on, things that in a sense will be like getting an overhaul on a car. I need to show that no matter what, He knows where I am going, and that God loves me with an everlasting love.
John 6:37 MKJV All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will in no way cast out.

You are loved, wanted, understood, respected, and always welcome into His loving arms. Never forget that!
If you do not know Jesus Christ by asking him into your life I suggest you do so now. I believe time is short, and the events that are about to happen will be overwhelming and deadly. Those that refuse to take whatever symbol that indicates allegiance to this coming world leader, and refuse to worship what the Bible calls the beast, will be welcome into the arms of God as saints. This trouble that is coming will be tougher than you ever thought possible, and I wish for you to avoid these pains.
